Compressor fridge

Cool actively on the road, without ice packs or a permanent mains supply.

A compressor fridge is not a cool box: it holds a real temperature even at 35 °C, and it uses far less than you would first assume.

Why it is part of the system

On a longer trip cooling is one of the first problems you have to keep solving. Ice packs run out; a compressor fridge can run both on the move and while parked.

In exchange it wants energy, which is why it cannot be sized as a separate product but only together with the power station, the solar panel and the alternator charging.

Our own fridge has not arrived yet. We will verify its real daily consumption by measuring it ourselves and feed the result into the calculator — until then we calculate from the manufacturer's figures.

What is it for?

Safe cooling for food, drinks, medicine and dog food in the car, in a tent or during a blackout. Dual-zone models cool and freeze at the same time.

Who is it for?

It suits you if you travel with a dog or children, spend several days without shopping, or do not want a blackout to make you throw out the contents of your fridge.

How to choose

  • Volume (l): 20 l for two people for a weekend, 40–60 l for a family or a longer trip.
  • Number of zones: one zone cools or freezes, two do both at once.
  • Consumption: the compressor draws roughly 45–60 W, but not continuously. Based on manufacturer figures, 250–500 Wh a day is realistic; we will verify this by measuring it ourselves once our fridge arrives.
  • Power supply: it runs straight from 12/24 V DC with no inverter — which saves a lot of energy.
  • Handling: wheels and a handle, if you do not want to lift it when full.

Where there is no official local price, we convert the EU reference price at the Hungarian National Bank's official rate for the day, rounded up. This is an estimate, not the shop's price — the partner shop bills in its own currency. Purchase links go live once each partner programme is approved, brand by brand. Which one should I pick?

Two people, a weekend: 20–25 l. Family or a longer trip: 38–40 l. Home blackout: 40–60 l. If you also carry frozen dog food, choose a dual-zone model.
