With children, as a family

More people, more devices, more energy — but it need not be complicated.

On a family trip consumption does not double, it multiplies: a bigger fridge, more phones and tablets, more lighting.

The most common mistake is a fridge and a power station that are both too small. You find out on the second day — and by then it is too late.

This is how we would do it

With a family consumption does not double, it multiplies. More phones, tablets, a bigger fridge, more lighting.

The most common mistake to run into: the fridge is too small. Twenty litres is enough for two adults, not for two adults and two children — and you find that out on the second day, when it is already too late.

For sleeping we take the manufacturer's rating seriously. If the family does not fit in the tent, a ground tent has to go alongside it, not an optimistic estimate.

Where there is no official local price, we convert the EU reference price at the Hungarian National Bank's official rate for the day, rounded up. This is an estimate, not the shop's price — the partner shop bills in its own currency. Purchase links go live once each partner programme is approved, brand by brand. What to watch for as a family

A bigger fridge: 38–60 litres, ideally dual zone. More phones and tablets: 4–6 devices to charge a day. Lighting: in the tent and around the car. Higher energy demand: 1000–1500 Wh a day is realistic. A family rooftop tent: a 2–3 person rating, plus a ground tent for the older ones.
