Sizing
How big a power station do I need?
Add up what you use in a day (power × hours), multiply by the number of days, and allow around 20% reserve, because a battery is not run to zero. The calculator does exactly that for the appliances you list, and tells you when a smaller unit already covers it.
What is the difference between Wh and W?
Wh (watt-hours) is quantity: how much energy the unit stores, which decides how long it lasts. W (watts) is instantaneous power: it decides what you can start at once. A 2000 Wh unit rated at 600 W will run a fridge for a long time and will not start a kettle at all.
How much reserve should I plan for?
That is its own question: how many days you must survive with neither sun nor driving. In most cases this, not your ordinary daily use, is what decides whether you need an expansion battery — on normal days the recharge covers you.
Charging
How much solar can I connect to a power station?
Wattage is not the only limit: the station's input voltage window and maximum current matter too. With several panels, series wiring adds voltage and parallel wiring adds current, and the combination has to stay inside that window. That is why the calculator only offers a panel count that can actually be wired up.
How much does a DC-DC (alternator) charger put back?
As much as the station's input accepts. A 580 W charger feeding a station with a 200 W DC input delivers 200 W — the charger's rating is a ceiling, not an output. The recommendation therefore states the figure you can actually use.
Can I charge from solar and from the car at the same time?
Only where the manufacturer documents it. The ordinary timeline is solar while parked and the alternator while driving — and those are the same daylight hours. So the calculator does not credit a full day of sun to a day with driving unless simultaneous charging is recorded for that station.
What is an expansion battery for?
More capacity behind the same inverter. It is worth it when the power is enough and only the runtime is short. It is not always cheaper than a bigger standalone unit — the calculator prices both routes and compares the total.
Fitting it together
How do I know two parts work together?
The catalogue records the stations' input limits and the panels' Voc/Vmp/Imp wherever the manufacturer publishes them. Where there is no verified figure we do not assume compatibility: no recommendation beats one you cannot actually connect.
Can I mix two makers in one system?
In the charging chain we only recommend verified pairings, because voltage, current and connector all matter there. A fridge or a rooftop tent is a standalone load or an accessory — mixing brands there is not a technical question.
Buying
Does it matter whether I buy privately or as a business?
Yes. As a business we only recommend products from a merchant whose company purchase we have verified for that country. This is not a reordering: the shortlist itself can narrow.
Should I take a ready bundle or a custom calculation?
A bundle is a faster decision, a calculation is a more accurate one. We only offer a bundle as an answer to the same need when it passes the same calculation the itemised recommendation did — never a weaker one.
What should I buy for a blackout at home?
Two different questions. For bridging the loads that matter — fridge, router, lighting — a portable power station is a good answer. For backing up the house or selected circuits you need an installed system wired in by an electrician; a portable unit cannot do that, however sufficient it looks in watt-hours.
Are the price and the stock always accurate?
The price is indicative and is settled in the partner's own shop. Where we have a verified local price we show it unchanged; where we do not, we convert the EU reference price at the day's official MNB rate and label it as such. Stock is finally answered by the partner's page.
Not sure how big a system you need?
Tell us what you are taking and how many days you spend off-grid. We will tell you how much storage and how much solar is enough — and when a smaller system already covers it.
