Rooftop tent

A bed ready in minutes — right where you stopped.

A rooftop tent frees you from the ground and its condition. No need to find a flat, dry, clean spot: a level parking space is enough.

Why it is part of the system

A rooftop tent solves the thing we are doing all of this for: not having to shape every evening's route around accommodation. If there is a level spot for the car, the bed is there too.

Choosing one is not only about the tent. The car's rated roof load, the cross bars' capacity and the tent's mounting decide together — and the smallest of the three is the one that applies.

Our own rooftop tent is still on its way. Once it arrives we will document everything from fitting it to real use.

What is it for?

Sleeping on the car roof, with a built-in mattress and a ladder. Hard shells open fast, fold-outs give more interior space.

Who is it for?

It suits you if you go off-road, camp off-grid, or travel with a family and do not want to pitch a ground tent every evening.

How to choose

  • Sleeping capacity: a 2–3 person rating counts adults and children together.
  • Construction: a hard shell is faster and more aerodynamic, a fold-out is larger and usually cheaper.
  • Weight and roof load: the tent's own weight, the bar's capacity AND the car's rated dynamic roof load decide together. While sleeping the static figure applies, while driving the dynamic one — and they differ.
  • Mounting: it cannot be fitted without cross bars — that is a precondition, not an option.
  • Mattress and ventilation: on a longer trip this decides whether you actually rest.

Where there is no official local price, we convert the EU reference price at the Hungarian National Bank's official rate for the day, rounded up. Which one should I pick?

If you move often and break camp frequently, choose a hard shell. If you go out less often but sleep more people, a fold-out gives more room for the same money.
